An integral companion to almost every wooden house is a terrace or decking in front of it. Terraces can be either covered (with pergolas, canopies, etc.) or uncovered.
The load on a terrace is very high due to the fact that it is generally subjected to all existing types of loads:
- Atmospheric (moisture, rain, snow, sun, temperature changes);
- Mechanical (abrasion, deflection);
- Biological (living microorganisms and insects).
The covering of modern terraces and decking includes:
- wooden terrace boards (thermowood and regular) and floorboards (thermowood and regular);
- various types of tiles, porcelain stoneware, etc.;
- polymer terrace boards (WPC).
Each of these types has its pros and cons, which matter to varying degrees. Thermowood and regular boards are more susceptible to external influences, but they have low thermal conductivity, meaning they don't heat up as much from the sun, and a lower cost. Polymer decking is significantly more expensive but much more durable and easy to maintain.
Terrace framings are also made of wood or metal. The pros and cons here are also clear: price, durability, and maintenance.
